    OnePlus 9 Pro.jpg
Like the predecessor, the Oneplus 9 Pro features a troika of wide-angle, telephoto zoom (3.3x), and super-wide-angle cameras. However, the hardware is new and was developed together with Hasselblad. The wide-angle and super-wide-angle mo-dules once again work with high-resolution sensors (48 and 50 megapixels, respectively) that switch to 12 megapixels in low light.
The Oneplus 9 Pro does many things well, but there are also downsides. Both the wide-angle camera and the super-wide-angle camera please with a high image quality. The main camera converts the maximum resolution of 48 megapixels into detailed pictures in bright light. However, the normal focal length is disappointing - we do not recommend it. The tele can be used for details and portraits - but only in a lot of light. Furthermore, the excessively hard signal processing is irritating in the telephoto pictures. The pictures from the wide-angle and super-wide-angle cameras with maximum resolution show that Oneplus knows the better way to do it.

Grand angle (caméra principale) – objectif 1,9/6,1 mm

(équivalent 35 mm : 23 mm), capteur 48 MP, JPEG avec 48 ou 12 MP

The main camera lets photographers choose between 48 and 12 megapixels (4-to-1 pixel binning). Overall, the high-resolution pictures deliver better quality in all measured brightness levels - we therefore use the 48 MP JPEGs for our rating.
The Oneplus shows its resolution advantages especially in good light (5000 lux). Then, the signal processing adjusts the 48 MP JPEGs more gently than the 12 MP JPEGs and thus not only delivers more detailed, but also more natural-looking pictures. Especially finer structures with low contrasts are better preserved.
The advantage of the JPEGs with 48 megapixels is no longer so clearly visible in diminishing light (200 lux) - it then depends on the structures and the amount of light. As a rule, however, the latter can overtake the pictures taken with lower resolution in terms of quality.
In darkness (5 lux) and in all situations with really low light, we recommend reducing the resolution. The resolution of 12 megapixels saves a bit more details, although the overall performance naturally degrades further.
Overall, the wide-angle camera can convince with a good performance - but it is still missing a few points to take a top position.

Focale normale – objectif 1,9/6,1 mm

(équivalent 35 mm : 46 mm), capteur 48 MP, JPEG avec 12 MP

The wide-angle camera also takes on the role of the portrait lens as a digital twin zoom - but it can't shine in this role. Even in bright light (5000 lux), the resolution drops significantly, especially finer details are affected, and the colors become pale.
It doesn't help much then that the quality barely drops in low light (200 Lux). In darkness, the already inadequate image quality deteriorates even more.

    Téléobjectif – OBJECTIF 2,4/7,4 mm

(équivalent 35 mm : 77 mm), capteur 8 MP, JPEG avec 8 MP

A sensor resolution of 8 megapixels doesn't lead us to expect top performance, but at least an image stabilizer is on board. In high light (5000 lux) and in light twilight (200 lux), the achieved resolution is high for an 8 MP sensor. Oneplus enforces this by a very aggressive signal processing with sometimes heavy contrast enhancement and edge splitting - some fine structures are lost that way. Even under optimal conditions, you get pictures full of artifacts. Fading light intensifies these negative effects. Despite these image weaknesses, the tele can be used well for detail shots because you then get exaggerated, but usually still more detailed sections than with the wide-angle camera. In the dark, the device switches to the wide-angle camera and shoots with the digital zoom - the results is hardly usable.

Super grand angle – objectif 2,2/3,5 mm

(équivalent 35 mm : 14 mm), capteur 50 MP, JPEG avec 50 MP ou 12 MP

The super wide-angle camera can shoot with 50 or with 12 megapixels - the reduced resolution is overall the better choice. Although JPEGs with 50 megapixels look more natural in high light, they sometimes lack details that can be seen in the 12 MP shots. In other places, however, the 50-megapixel photos are better defined than the 12-megapixel shots, which are more harshly tuned and more affected by artifacts. However, these advantages are neither consistent nor great - so it is more worthwhile to work with space-saving 12 megapixels.
The same applies to both resolutions: In a lot of light, the super-wide-angle camera is really good and can compete with the best. When the light fades, 50 megapixels quickly lose quality, while shots with 12 megapixels benefit from pixel binning and can still maintain the level quite well. Even black and white JPEGs taken in the dark remain quite respectable. All in all, a good super-wide-angle camera.
